Nexa’s Christmas Message and Reflections on 2022

As we all hope to slow down a bit and look forward to a break this Christmas time, it seems appropriate to reflect for a moment on the year we have had.

On a positive note in the UK, 2022 saw something like a return to normality for many as we finally shook off the restrictions of the pandemic – Nexa’s recent Christmas festivities, re-instated this year, are a prime example of re-discovering the joys of getting together and connecting, in person.

I think we have all enjoyed being able to see colleagues and clients again over the last 12 months. In April we were proud to co-host our Diversity in Law event  with our friends at 2to3 days in support of the Next 100 Years Campaign. With insightful contributions from our six expert panellists and the audience, this event gave us all plenty of food for thought on how to stop the brain drain of women (and others) in law.

On the wider national and international stage of course, things have not been so positive – the war in Ukraine causing economic shock waves felt far and wide, the cost-of-living crisis in the UK and elsewhere, political upheaval and the death of the UK’s longest serving monarch creating a tangible feeling of uncertainty.

The future looks bright

But the legal sector keeps working through economic cycles and world events, and at Nexa, we have many reasons to feel satisfied with our performance to date and optimistic about the future.

At the start of the year, we celebrated our fifth birthday and unveiled our new “grown-up” website. We have continued to grow steadily this year, recruiting more diverse, high-quality consultants who enhance the culture of collaboration and openness at our business.

Our freelance lawyer service for law firms, NexaConnex, launched earlier this year and is going from strength to strength.

We have also appointed our first ESG Lead, Catherine Oh to help us keep doing our bit to tackle inequality in the legal sector and adopted our Environmental Business Charter to tackle climate change.

I want to say a huge thank you to all our consultants and staff for their loyalty, hard-work and support and to all the clients who have put their trust in Nexa this year.

The Nexa family isn’t just our staff, our consultants and their clients, but also the many suppliers we collaborate with, who help us run our business as efficiently as possible and whose assistance helps us keep on innovating. Many thanks to all of them for working with us this year.
