Meet our suppliers: Nexa’s friends helping our business succeed

At Nexa we are fortunate to work with some fantastic suppliers who help us each and every day to run our business in the most effective way. In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say, we couldn’t do it without them!

In this new series of occasional blogs, we will share some stories detailing our partnerships with the suppliers who provide such fabulous support to Nexa and its consultants.

Here’s what our content writer Katy Meves had to say:

I’ve been working with Nexa since March 2022, when I was introduced to the firm through a mutual contact. My role is to provide content for the website (be that blogs or general copy for the site), social media posts and occasionally ghost-writing articles for third party publications.

I have a legal background having done my training at Slaughter and May in the City and qualified as a solicitor into their employment and pensions team. After re-locating to the South coast, I worked for Shoosmiths as the professional support lawyer for their employment department. My role had initially been precedents, know-how, training etc. but over the ten years I was there, I found myself working more and more closely with the business development team on marketing materials and web copy, as online PR and marketing become more and more important to the business.

Having two small children, I decided to make the move out of private practice into self-employment, which has greatly enhanced my work-life balance (it’s easy to forget that pre-pandemic this was really the only way to ensure homeworking!).

I am now lucky enough to work for a small group of legal services clients in the UK writing content for them, in various forms. My legal background really helps me empathise with their ambitions and challenges.

From my first conversation with CEO Nigel Clark, I was enthused by the dynamism of Nexa’s business model and the “can-do” attitude of everyone here, it feels like a business which is going places. My previous experience of new model law firms was very limited, but it is such an exciting space, it does feel like you are working on the frontier of the future!

Content writing is more than just putting words on a page (any old AI bot can do that!). It’s about finding relevant topics to talk about, keeping up with ideas and developments, news stories and popular culture and getting your message across in an interesting way that will catch people’s attention (and make them want to keep reading).

As a content writer, nothing you write will be effective for your client unless you understand their business and their goals. Getting to know a client and being able to feed into their business strategy is one of the most professionally rewarding parts of my job.

I’ve covered a range of issues for Nexa which have often been thought provoking and it’s really satisfying work supporting them on their journey, I look forward to continuing to play a small part in their success.”
